Adventures in Paradise - Panama Canal, Hot Fun in the Sun!

"Surfing the Canal"  Cruise, April 2010!

Day 5 - Cartagena, Columbia!

Look familiar? How about "Romancing the Stone"! From a great movie scene...

\ the ever changing city skyline, here we are in Cartagena, Columbia.

Here was a local "Yacht Racer" out to join us for the day, life doesn't get much more laid back than this guy! The temperature is a little warm here today and unfortunately there were no waves for this old guy to go and get wet in so I made plans with my good friend Wes to join him on a mission for a little food on land! But before we left the ship I had a little work to finish up so it was off to my temporary office!

My New Office!

Great spot to hang out and work, all the comfort of my office back home in Bend, Oregon! When we're out to sea my view is a little more attractive then the industrial port here in Cartagena but I have to say my new office location is nice no matter where the ship is! This spot has power, if you bring a European "B" adapter and the ship's wireless system is in full strength here.

Mokana Club

At the end of the strip you can find about the only spot to rent a board and hit the break but unfortunately for me

"Mother Nature" didn't treat me to anything worth playing in. If you head down this way the guys are real nice and always appreciate a few bars of wax as they have a hard time getting any down here. At the end of the jetty you can see what is a man made "point break" and a swell coming at you will produce a sandy beach break. It's nothing special but if you are a die hard it will give a ride!

Riding the Streets!

The taxi rides in Cartagena can be as fun as any carnival ride! It did help however to have a fluent speaking "leader of the pack" with us,

Muchas Gracias mi amigo!

Back onboard

If you have not experienced a "sail-a-way" or a nice Caribbean night time party you will definitely enjoy the festivities. One of my favorite aspects of these parties is the nice warm air at 11 at night!
